About

Shieldlist is made by LRob SARL, a web hosting company in Orléans, France. It grew out of running shared hosting servers: machines where hundreds of sites produce refused logins, 404s and scans all day, and where the usual tools either miss the patient attacker or fall over during a flood.

What it is

• The agent — one binary on each server. It reads the logs, decides locally and bans at the firewall (nftables). RAM-first, no database or service beside it, bounded memory and CPU under flood by design.
• The controller — one binary on one of your machines. It enrols the agents, gives the fleet a console, pushes rules and exemptions, shares bans across servers and reports to abuse databases.
• The rules — short readable files that cannot run anything on your machines. A rule names the log lines that count, how many in how long, and what ban follows. Free packs cover the basics every server needs; premium packs are the outcome of research in real conditions and cover specific uses.

Free software, paid content

The agent and the controller are free software under the AGPL-3.0; the source is on git.lrob.net/Shieldlist. LRob sells what it maintains on top: curated rule packs, lists, and reporting. Rules reach your servers through a controller you run — the rules are files, and nothing on your machines depends on our site staying up.

Made in Europe

The company, the servers that serve this site and the data we keep are in France. Reporting to third parties is off unless you turn it on, and a report carries the offender's address and a sentence — never your logs.
